Revamp part D E U X

revamp-part-d-e-u-x

My favourite digital anime artist revamped her website a little under 24 hours ago! The simple layout and colour scheme has me inspired to get cracking on designing a new layout for this site. First I started playing around with patterns in photoshop and I have a think for pinstripes/scanlines…but then that’s been done to death. Going with the damask pattern I’ve been using for other layouts and armed with custom brushes and fonts, I went to town! Last time I designed I layout I used grays/green/orange and blue(so many colours, so little time), this time I think gray/pink and white is enough…keep it as simple as possible! Here’s a larger screenshot for your viewing pleasure.

Also…having 50 billion scroll bars sucks…just sayin’!

Get those creative juices flowing!

Well for the first time ever in my life, I’ve been going through a bit of an artblock. The weird thing about it is that I have ideas but I haven’t found any that were satisfying enough to draw. Luckily yesterday I made myself a little inspirational wallpaper and as soon as I finished with the wallpaper, ideas started to flow.

Colouring old wip’s sure helps. Can you tell how much I like colouring a character’s eyes…I sure do. Not sure if I’ll put this in the junk section or not, it is sort of old…and the anatomy is atrocious…but I do need more original art. Could always mention that it’s old…hmmm.

Also as a result of new inspiration, I have a new idea for a website layout, so I better get sketching. And one last thing, if you noticed that this blog’s guestbook was broken for a little while, it’s finally fixed and working again, so if you want to leave a little message YOU CAN NOW!

That is all!

Revamp

Looking at the site and a few of my favourite art sites gave me the inspiration to tweak Tranquil-Solace’s layout a little bit in photoshop…

I really wanted to have a separate section for my latest gallery additions and works in progress(wip’s).

And this wide layout would be used for all the other pages, excluding the main page.

I’ve even went so far as to doodle out my layout ideas. Hopefully I’ll have this finished, sliced and ready for dreamweaver soon.

Broken images and 1300!

So I was showing a friend of mine the site only to have him tell me, “a lot of your images aren’t showing up!”. At first he meant images here, so I went through all the entries and everything checked out. But when I went to the site’s gallery section…well it wasn’t pretty. So heading over to the pc where the site root folder is, I had to upload EVERYTHING again. Kept getting a weird message about needing to synchronize everything because there have been site changes since my last FTP uploading session. I don’t remember making any changes, but always good to synch, just in case, so I did. And it’s all better now…I hope. If not, please let me know right away! So I can save myself from embarassment!

So help me God! I will finish this…hey why not try tomorrow? I just can’t wait for the summer, lots of time to draw, post sketches, complete things and just relax…dammit why can’t it be June already?!? Oh and another things, according to statcounter, the site has over 1300 hits, so to all the people who visit, a big thank you! And bring along a few friends the next time you visit! It’ll be fun, we’ll have a few snacks, couple of drinks…okay so you can’t have food on the internet. But either way, thank you!

Security

Goodness, I really do need to pay a little more attention to this blog. I can’t want more people to notice it when it’s barely updated now, can I?

As much as the internet enables people to share things, such as art(after all this is an artsite) with hundreds, thousands and even millions of people around, there is a slight downside to sharing your works with others online, and that downside is, of course, art theft.

Never could understand why people feel the need to steal someone’s work. To me, it seems a lot more rewarding to try and learn how to make things on your own and pick up a few tips and tricks from artists that you admire. But to blatantly steal it? Just doesn’t seem worth it to me. So with that in mind, I just spent a good hour looking through tutorials to disable right clicking on website’s and stopping people from viewing your site directory folders.

First I came up with this but figured it was too easy, so my brain said “Look for a HARDER tutorial!”…this is one of the many moments when I really shouldn’t listen to the ideas in my head…they aren’t productive ones. Then I tried following another tuorial and for a while, half of the site just wouldn’t work. Remember kids, read tutorial instructions carefully, it really does help. So after 20 minutes of googling more tutorials to fix my half broken site, finally went back to the easy way, put a lovely little index file into each folder that contains images, just that simple. And now a test….

art

All of the images for the site’s gallery are located in an art folder. Can you see it’s contents?

Now can you see that? If you said yes, then I did this right and I can be proud. Such a shame we live in a world where you have to worry about people stealing art and other things though…
