Snow daaaaay!

So Toronto got it’s first dusting of snow on Sunday and it’s been snowing on and off since then. Nothing serious like a snowstorm, but people will complain about it none the less, either it’s too much or it’s arrived too early. As for this blog author, I like it!

The town houses around here look so pretty with snow covered rooftops!

This bench looks kind of lonely…but then who wants to go out side and sit on a bench in this cold?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

It’s like the snow makes everything calmer and more serene.

Snow even manages to make those bulky recycle bins a teeny bit…cuter. Remember kids, reduce, reuse, recycle!

Wintery themed chibi art, was going to use this as my annual Christmas art, but another idea popped into my head. Should try and finish the lineart tomorrow…

Of boxes and business cards…

So related to my secret project I went and did a little shopping at the dollar store…

So as part of the project I need a box to hold money in. This one seemed like a good idea but then I realized that I need a box that I can lock. So I’ll have to find another one and come up with another use for this box. And here I thought I’d have a pretty, girly money box!

Lots of room to put money and…stuff!

Note to self: Pull feet in when taking photos lol…They really do sell pretty stuff at dollar stores. Now this box is for holding little decorations and decals that I had picked up.

My decals! No wonder scrapbooking is so popular, all the little embellishments for it are so dang cheap!

So I took another crack at making business cards and following Finni’s advice, added some artwork to the card design.

Can’t get more personal than drawing chibi caricatures of oneself! Especially slightly pissed ones! Thinking I might change the black and white background on the backside of the card and use the gray-black patterned background that’s on the front instead.

I really like this second design! I hope it isn’t extra expensive to custom cut rounded cards, haven’t seen many people with cards like this. Better get these printed and see how they come out.

Last but not least, I’ve started working on a new website layout. Inspired by a blog post by the artist Shilin I’m going to put up a little test page at http://tranquil-solace.com/ts3 , I think I may actually go and tweak the layout in photoshop for a little bit.

Sketchbooks and then some!

My college career officially on the 28th of August. I’m happy to say I passed the summer Chemistry course I was taking and passed nicely(Go me! Now just for the convocation ceremony!). In order to celebrate my family “forced” me to take a little shopping trip and buy whatever my heart desired. So I bought sketchbooks lots of sketchbooks!
!

I bought quite a few actually including one of those moleskine sketchbooks and those flip pad sketchbooks that are perfect for lefties like myself(yup the leftorium episode of the Simpsons was right!). I think now I possess enough sketchbooks to last me a year if not the rest of my natural life! So I really have no excuse not to update this blog more often. Speaking of updating things, might as well put up an artistic “To do” list so I don’t forget all the plans I have with my newfound free time! In the mean time here’s a WIP from my top secret art project.

I hope everyone’s Christmas went well and that their 2010 is going smoothly so far! Mine was pretty good, nice and quiet, ate and drank a lot…all that good stuff! Well here’s my first(of hopefully many) posts of the new year. Remember how I posted about needing a new laptop? Well…

Yeah…It was definitely time to replace this one!

Laptops really shouldn’t be held together with masking tape…doesn’t look too nice!

Had to replace it’s keyboard…it’s been through a lot!

A brand spanking new laptop bag I got for my birthday. One of the problems with having a huuuuge laptop(17.3 inches) is that most bags sold in stores are too small. Thank God for Crumpler *shameless plug*!

I’ve had this bad boy for about a month now and I love it! Windows 7 is the OS, 4GB of RAM, 500GB for the hard drive, it’s fast, the screen is huge…it’s like I can see everything lol! I have Photoshop, Corel Painter and Paint Tool Sai installed on it, so I have no excuse to not update my dA page and website more often. I’m even going to go back to inking things with fineliners in order to churn out cg art more frequently. Wish me luck! Last but not least, have a work in progress! Gah I’ve been working on that one on and off since summer started last year! I almost want to just scrap it or toss it in the junk art folder…But I’m also sort of determined to finish inking this. Could always use the colouring practise!

Ever since about 2003 I’ve seen all kinds of photographs of people with anime figurines. Whether it was of a gundam or some other mecha or a full scale model of the popular moé character of the day, I always manged to find post-convention photos on people’s blogs or postings about new ones on sale at places like jlist. From that time on, I knew I just had to have one, but my biggest setback was usually the price. When you go though a little currency conversion from Yen to the Canadian dollar, these things could put you 100+ dollars in the hole and I’m just a humble college student! Then with anime north 2008 and fan expo 2008 I was even more determined to buy something, those adorable nendoroids and other figurines…I just knew I could give them a good home. But once again the price came and hit me upside the head. I saw an amazing Code Geass Knightmare frame at FanExpo but the vendor wanted 75 dollars for it. I guess it’s true some of these hobby shops jack up their prices during convention time…You know how they say good things come to those who wait? Well today my day came!

Everyone, please say hello to Sebastian!

I had just finished watching Kuroshitsuji and a few days after it was payday, so I just knew what I was going to buy. Had to do a little searching to find an online figurine store that had Sebas-chan in stock though.

He looks rather comfortable on my desk.

He kept asking me if there was anything I wanted him to do for me. He kept telling me about this kid he worked for a while ago…something about wanting to devour my soul…yeah…I’ll pass on that. He didn’t seem too pleased I turned him down. Not very pleased at all…

So do I like him as my first figurine? I love him! His only draw back is that some of the removable face/neck parts don’t seem to attach very snugly to his body. Not sure if it’s because their joints use those bjd thingies or what. Luckily he’s standing against my pc monitor and I don’t plan to swap faces that often(might make another photo post though!), so he should be good. Do I plan to buy other nendoriods? I sure do! Actually, I have a little wishlist of other figurines I’d like to buy in the future, so keep an eye out for future posts!

Since this is supposed to be a blog for posting wip’s/art and sketches, here’s something I’m working on in time for halloween. Since it takes a little while to ink digitally(but looks so much better) I’ve inked this with my trusty fineliners. Hopefully it will come out well for a little idea I have in mind.
